Causes of Damp in Wardrobes
Most damp spots behind a wardrobe can be traced to one or two causes. First and foremost, these must be addressed and, in most cases, they resolve the problem.
Condensation
Excess moisture in an area creates dampness and mould. Fitted Fitted Hinged Wardrobes built against exterior walls cut off the area behind them from the rest of the room, so it doesn’t receive the heat or circulation that it once did. If the trapped space is still warm, it can also become humid, allowing mould to grow easily. Move free-standing wardrobes away from the wall to resolve this problem.
Wet Clothing
A surprising amount of dampness occurs from hanging nearly dry clothes in your wardrobe. Despite their apparent dryness, this adds extra moisture to the closet. Moisture spreads out in search of dry spaces when introduced. In addition to this, the wardrobe’s darkness creates an ideal environment for mould to grow.
Other Causes of Damp
If neither of these are the cause of the damp, then you should check other areas of the house that may be causing the problem. Check the following signs of a leak causing the damp:
Plumbing
Leaking gutters
Holes in the roofing
High humidity in the home
Downpipes
